Hey Go Kart Pile Up fans and friends!

A big thank you to all of you that have been sending us e-mail with words of encouragement and inquiry about the show!

After a year and a half of Go Karting, we are taking a little rest. Think of it as the Go Kart is in the garage for a while getting worked on, and the garage doesn't have a loaner car available.

Folks, we had a nasty electrical storm that blew through here the night we recorded. After the mics were shut off, I ran my usual compression filters to bring you the high quality sound you've come to expect from the Go Kart Pile Up, and POOF!! The power went out.

Lap 36 is a remote PodCast from the Rockdale Ladies Book Club. Yes. 12 women, who sit around, have cocktails and talk about sex. Somewhere between The View and Sex in the City. And then there's Joel. The only male trying to keep afloat in a sea of estrogen.

Keep in mind, kids, this is an adult show. Lots of talk about sex, vibrators and the like...So if you get offended by that kind of thing, you may want to skip this one.

And on a final note, Joel and Nola are happy to report that the summer now seems clear of weddings, big holiday parties, massive garage sales and the like that have been keeping them away from the microphone.

First of all, thank you all for hanging in there. We had a little time in the pit for the past couple of weeks, as Joel's modem died, and it took much longer than expected to get a replacement. Don't woory, he'll tell you all about it in this, lap 31!

Nola went skydiving!! We tried something new and cool, by placing a small microphone in her jump suit to catch all of the action. Listen in. It turned out better than expected given the 120mph winds.

Lap 30 is FINALLY online. This seems to be the summer of technical issues. Our studio high atop the hill in the Koshkonong valley has had a rough month or two. Our latest problem? Our modem died on us. So with Heather's Bar and Grill now offering free wireless internet, I've moved in until UPS knocks on my door with my new, sparkling modem.

This is the 4th blood drive being held in memory of Alan. For those of you new to my address list, Alan was my husband who passed away 6-29-04 from Renal Cell Cancer. He was on blood transfusions for 9 months. It was the kindness of strangers who took time to donate their blood that helped him. His family and friends were to enjoy those 9 extra months with him. So please take the time to donate blood. If you are unable to make this blood drive just call your local Red Cross and donate there. It is very important that we keep the blood supply stocked so they are able to help someone else's sweetie.

This was Alan's wish that people donate blood, please find the time.

Well folks, today was my first belly dancing class. I do have to say that I enjoyed it very much. I look forward to isolating my body parts, and moving my hips, ribs and shoulders all in different directions and at different tempos. OK YEA RIGHT!! But I did have a blast learning some of the basics, and I am excited for next week and the weeks to come.

Yellow flag on the track!!

While rounding the final corner of Lap 10, Go Kart Pile Up spun out, slammed into the wall, flipped over and burst into flames and never quite made it to the finish line. In other words, we tried something new and exciting with unproven equipment and had a fairly massive software failure. So all of our efforts in recording our first remote show form Heather's Bar and Grill was in vain.

I want to thank Jeremy, Cindy, Lynette, Diane, Butchie, and all of the great guests we had that night. I'm sorry you won't be hearing that particular recording. And a very special thanks to Heather, who was gracious enough to allow us to record at her bar, and for keeping us nice and buzzed for both attempts at recording the show.

So hang on kids, we hope to have lap 10 posted before the end of the week. In the meantime, our pit crew is looking into our mechanical failure, and trying to remedy the problem so we can have another remote in the near future.

Best New Years Ever!

Ringing in the new year now has a totally new meaning. On Dec 31st, my boyfriend of just under 1 1/2 years, asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes! He had picked out he most gorgeous ring ever. He is so sweet. For those of you who were with us that night, you know how happy I was.

I just wanted to share my great news. I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years Eve.

OK. You heard about it on the Podcast, and here it is. This gift acheives a level of redneck that sets a new personal record for me.

1) Larissa sees possum in front of our house when she lets the dogs out.
2) Larissa tells me to kill it.
3) I shoot possum and subsequently, kill it.
4) It occurs to us, that the new bar in town, the Possum Lodge may like to have the dead possum to taxidermy and display.
5) Larissa ties a big, red ribbon around the neck of the dead possum and we set it in the back of our pick-em-up-truck.
6) Drive possum to the Possum Lodge and present with a Merry X-Mas!
7) They loved it.

So yes, I shot a possum and gave it to a bar as a gift. You can't make that shit up.

You know that sinking feeling you get when you suddenly hear a nasty sound coming from the drive train of your vehicle? It's a combination of "Shit. That sounds really expensive." along with "Shit. Any minute now the wheels are going to seize up and I'm going to die."

Well that just happened to me. We have a little snow on the ground. Not a lot by Wisconsin terms, but a little. 6 inches or so, with some larger drifts around our barn. I just returned from Farm and Fleet in Madison, with a couple bags of de-icer for around the barn. Being the lazy guy that I am, I decided to drive on down to the barn to unload the 50 pound bags, rather than muscle them through the snow from our driveway.

"Hell. I've got 4 wheel drive, and an off-road truck. A few inches of snow won't hurt anything." I thought to myself as I started up the ignition.

I proceed to roll down to the barn, pull just beyond so I can back up to the door to unload, and my wheels spin a little. I hit a drift of about 10 inches. Gave it a little more gas, and the truck shimmied around and then went where I told it to go. Cool.

I shut off the truck, unload the de-icer, and get back in to pull back up to the house. As I start to drive, I hear what sounds like a muffler dragging on the pavement. This cannot be. I'm in snow. I continue to drive through the snow, and decide it doesn't sounds like a muffler so much as someone ringing a cowbell under the hood.

That's when that feeling hit me. Shit. That sounds expensive.

I get to my driveway, and switch it back to 2 wheel drive. No luck. It's stuck in 4wd now. I pull forward, put it in reverse, put it in neutral...Nothing seems to get it unstuck. And the cowbell starts ringing everytime I move forward or backward. No noise at all when I'm at a stand still.

This is not good, people. I am not happy about this. If any of you gear heads have some thoughts or words of encouragement, I'd appreciate it.

By the way, it's a 2003 Ford F-150.

The Mister Breeze Story

As we mentioned on the Podcast, here is a slightly edited e-mail sent from James of Mister Breeze to let us all know exactly how the band got started:

I moved in with my Grandma and Butch about 3 years ago and I hadn't been doing much of anything musically so Butch and I started playing guitars together. I started getting into the oldies and old country. I figured out that I needed to play songs that people wanted to hear.

A while after my best friend luke died in a car accident (Martys son) who used to be mine and Ryan Jacobsons bass player, I started talking with Marty and practicing at his house with him. Marty was still playing with Slim and the Fatcats. Butch and I were out in the garage one night and he asked why I didn't sing? So I started singing by myself. Marty asked if i would like to play at Heather's as a fill in on their breaks. Shortley after, I asked my friend Shannon (guitar player) if he wanted to play guitars sometime. So we started learning lots of songs together. We played a couple times for Marty and shortly after Marty stopped playing all together. Shannon and I decided we werent going to stop and I called my old drummer, and Butche's son John (bass player) and started making the band.

Butch had a couple parties over the summer and Marty would come over and play with the band. We realized we needed Marty to join because he taught us a lot and made us sound so much better. It took us awhile but soon after we had our first gig at Heathers. Butch is the reason why i started playing again and he and my Grandma are big supporters of the band. Even though Butch isn't actually in the band, we still have him up to play. I owe a lot to butch for the support and everything else that he has done. I just wanted to tell you the real story about mr. breeze.

Alas, all good things must end, at least temporarily. Our last belly dance lesson was this past Saturday. Very few participants this week. Still turkey drunk ladies? It did give Seanna a great opportunity to provide some much needed one on one. She gave me a great tip for isolating my rib cage and shoulders. Even this I can do in the car! I can only hope I get stopped for speeding, this move is a sure fire way to avoid a ticket for anything except maybe a cruise. Although I'm a bit worried about the increase in piracy on the high seas these days. May want to consider Belize! Anyway as usual it was great fun. I'm still not a great combiner but my isolating skills have kicked up a notch. I can not recommend this class enough. It's great fun and excerise. The group of women that have been coming are easy going. It's as much a social time as anthing else. We are planning a two hour seminar for early December and another session of dancing in January. The next session will be one hour with an additional half hour for those of us with previous experience. The half hour will provide more one on one opps. Seanna is hoping we can learn the entire dance routine. I'm hopeful as well. I know that many will learn and several will have fun trying! Guess which group I will be in? I can not speak for my sidekick, "Lola." She takes it much more seriously than I do! I'll keep you all posted as to the dates, times, cost and location of upcoming classes. Until then,

I have started this Thanksgiving by stepping into the world of red tape. I attempted to file for UC, as some of you may remember I am no longer employed with a bill paying income. Oh and by the way, surprise, surprise, the nasty got my job! Anyway I digress.
Accompanying my frustrating attempts to file for UC, was a call from an extremely sad friend in need of support, the only key to my car locked inside it by my lovely daughter, Maggie, and cramps (four days now) that I beleive would take down even the strongest of horses! Am I moody, agitated, tired!? Yes? Ya think?
In spite of this, I am trying to focus on the idea of thanks. Aside from my general woes and the fact that 9 out of 10 days it does suck to be me, I found several very strong reasons to embrace my half full glass of beer.
1. I have great freinds
2. I have strong-willed independent daughters
3. I have great fun
4. I can see and feel the colors of the world
5. I can make a difference when I really want to
6. I will eventually get my unemployment
7 I am not unhappy not working for my previous employer, in fact I'm not unhappy at all, really. I have moved into the realm of indifference which is even more comfortable than anger!
8. I will be cooking a fresh, locally grown turkey in a few days
9. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year.
Truthfully I have a great many things to be thankful for and I am. I know if I could just get rid of these cramps I could really appreciate them!

Vicarious living

I've received a comment on my most recent post. Orikinla Osinachi from Bonny Island, Nigeria was wishing to be able to learn belly dancing. Well I'm here to say "you can!" This past summer at one of my jobs I would often listen to a radio station on line originating from Martha's Vineyard. Whenever I felt I needed to take a vicarious vacation I would pay special attention to the local details. by summer's end I knew what folks were fishing for, where they needed to go for the best catches, what was happening on the local music scene. Hell I even knew what side of the island you needed to be on for the best sun! I stayed tuned in into the fall and listened to the local high school's football games on Friday afternoons. I almost felt like a local, almost. It has been great fun. I remember one time at a party when I was younger and a guy had to call his mother or wife or some other significant other type. He told her he'd had car trouble and would be late. One of the guests at the party said, "Hey you should've told us, we can do anywhere!" I've always loved that line. I've tried to incorporate it into my life many times on many levels. So you see, you too can do anywhere at anytime. Remember fantasies are make believe, dreams always have the potential to come true.

Money moves

Oh people,
I have seen the dance and it is hot, atleast it is when the instructor does it. What dance you ask. The one our belly dance lessons are leading up to. All this time I thought we were just working on basic moves, not so. Last week I found out we are actually learning a dance, complete with sassy gestures!
Lola and I learned a couple of money moves this week. I figure people will pay us to stop as much as they will pay us to shimmy on. Either way it's money for the jingle belt.
Which reminds me, all the women in class were wearing scarves this week. We have acheived jingle. Not the ting of an ill placed coin mind you but actual jingle. It was great fun in the back row this week. People employ various senses when learning. Belly dancing taps into at least three. It was amazing to see how everyone's moves changed when you add the sense of sound. Confidence is blooming this week!
We are hoping to continue with belly dancing in Cambridge when this sesion is finished. I'll be sure to post the info as it comes available to me. It is great fun. I hope many of you will consider joining us in the next session.

Blogs. Destroying the economy or improving productivity?

A report last week by Advertising Age Editor at Large Bradley Johnson noted that about 35 million workers -- or one in four people in the U.S. labor force -- spend an average of 3.5 hours, or 9%, of each work day reading blogs.

This blogification of workplace time is no minor concern -- the total losses across the national work force are estimated to be the equivalent of 551,000 years of paid time that is being spent on blogs via the employer's own computer systems.

Another important point was that the time spent reading blogs on the job was in addition to the time already spent surfing the Web in personal pursuits. The debate appears to be one of reasonable limits.

At what point, or at what length of time, does the use of company assets for personal activities become unreasonable? And is the problem likely to become an even greater one as more and more TV content goes online, becoming easily accessible from one's office computer? Do employers need to find new ways to police their computer systems? Or does Blogging and personal surfing actually improve moral and make people more productive in the long run? Your thoughts?

I am not a prude but I admit I don't spend a lot of time, well no time really, looking at porn. I accidently encountered a porn site while trying to find my eight year old daughter a halloween costume last year. She wanted to be an olympic gymnast and was searching web sites for leotards. I came upon this site with blurry, poor quality photos of young girls in poses that weren't really showing the leotard. Suddenly I realized where I was and I panicked! The last thing I wanted was porn delivered to my computer.
Then just yesterday my friend said look at these e-mails I'm getting. She showed me about 12 e-mails all of which were pornographic. I was shocked. The only words I could muster were, "there just girls." They were doing things I didn't even know were possible much less finding people willing to be photographed doing them! What a life lesson.

Balance that experience with the gleeful bliss of young children scurrying about from house to house screaming "trick or treat". I took my daughters out on Halloween night around town. Little dalmations moving as fast as their two year old legs could carry them to the next treat. Others were identifying the various ghouls and monsters for siblings with heartfelt reassurance that none of what they were seeing was real. Such innocence. We did get tricked once. We went to a house and no one was home. However, they left the candy right inside the locked patio door. "We've been tricked" the girls shouted. Word quickly spread through the crowd not to stop because nothing but a trick was waiting at that house. Halloween is to young children what Thanksgiving is to many adults. It's that one day a year when you can eat as much as you put into your body and no one has the conviction to stop you. What are you going to say to a child? No don't eat that candy, save it for another time. Yeah right kids think. "My bag is full, I have plenty for later, you save for later." Halloween in a small town is such a great slice of Americana. It's right up there with the drive-in movie and july 4th parades. I love seeing the excitement on the faces of the young when they know that a boat load of sugar is waiting for them!

As you can see from the sidebar, I am very happy to announce that Nola and I will be hosting what I think is the first ever Podcast for the Cambridge/Rockdale area. The show will be an extension of the Blog, where Nola and I will share all of the wacky stuff that happens around here as we see it. Should be a great show!

If you'd like to listen in, wait until you see a link underneath the Go-Kart Pile-Up logo. Click on that link, and your download should start immediately. The download size might be kinda large, as we are planning on our show to be somewhere between 30-60 minutes (depending on how much we have to talk about). Hey folks,
I'm back from my trip to St. Louis, and none of you met me there, not even Louie! Oh well I had fun anyway.
I rode a horse and I wasn't even afraid. Given the last time I rode, which was the only time I had been a horse before, I was thrown and kicked. I am the mistress of my emotions!!!! Hardly but it feels good to think so, especially during this period in my life.
I only got misplaced twice while driving. I do not say lost because I righted myself and suffered no dire consequences. Went to the top of the arch. I am so glad I'm not claustrophobic. Those little pods that take you to the top are so small. Not a good place for a panic attack.
I went into a little tavern with my friend and had several beers. People seemed surprised by our ability to hold our liquor. I told them this was just "a tea." I know professional drinkers that would blow their hair back.
Ant: I don't know who you are but I loved the Nike ad text! Thanks so much for the thought. I have to print that up and keep it close at hand. It was quite inspiring.
No Latin or Belly dancing this past week. My hips are feeling kind of lonely. If any of you see me shaking it in a store don't stop me!
Any one trolling for news? I think you've done enough damage.

Larissa and I (and Tiki, of course) are down in Columbus Ohio at the American Quarter Horse Congress. Some great horses down here, and great shopping. If we aren't back soon, it's because we've maxed out all of our credit cards, and can't afford the gas to get home!

And before you decide to break in to our house, know that our ferocious guard dogs are on duty and our house-sitter is a black belt in several martial arts.

Hello all,
I'm feeling much better. I truly believe that things happen for a reason. I know something better awaits me in the job market. I was talking w/ a friend and I said, " I thought when I left the center they would have a party and say good luck susan" My friend replied, " well now we know that's not going to happen." True enough. I'm sort of thinking now that if I wait a few months and let my dental hygiene fall by the wayside I may win the lottery. I could then be one of those toothless wonders that proclaims that "this money won't change my life at all" Except that it would and I would be the first to admit it! Anyway enough of that.

Our dear Nola has experienced a loss this week. Take care and know that we are here for you.

And now what you've all been waiting for, the dance update!
Let's see, this week we had a smaller group than last. I must admit I wasn't as focused as I usually am and so I had a bit more trouble isolating my rib cage. As a general rule I'm a pretty good isolator and not a great combiner. I sense a goal here!
I stay in the back so I am tickled to report that the glute squeezes are working for the group. Those cheeks are rising to the occaision! I have my jingle belt picked out now I just need to get the cash. Not to worry I have a plan.
Still three or four weeks left. All are welcome, just don't look into the light. Remember 8:30 - 9:30 Saturdays @ the Amundson Ctr.
I will not be in attendance next week. My girls and I are heading to St. Louis to visit friends. You'll have to use your imaginations to see the progress.
