Mud, Floods and Happy Birthday

The weather this past weekend was amazing. It gave me hope. We had freakishly warm weather. I could actually smell the pungent odor of decay from the leftover debris of last fall. The ground was thawing out, and getting muddy as hell. The horses were up to their fetlocks in the wet, squishy mud--a sign that spring is near.

This of course was tempered by more flooding on our property. I did manage to determine where the source of the vast amounts of water rushing towards our barn was coming from, and with some work, was able to divert the waters away from the barn, and into the pastures. But by the end of the day, the water was gone almost as quickly as it arrived. Hopefully the snow is done for the year, and I can hang up my waders until next year. But I'm not holding my breath. This is Wisconsin.

I've always said that the changing of seasons in Wisconsin is like turning on a fluorescent bulb that has a bad ballast. It flickers on and off for a while until you get the steady hum of light. On...off....on....on....off....onnnnnnnn.... Much like 65 degrees....20 degrees.....Thunderstorm....Snowstorm....70....20....70....10....95.....................

A belated happy birthday to Anderpants! I'll buy you a Dew next time we go down to Heather's!
