I think there may be some truth to that. The judges this year certainly had a country influence (based on hearing what they sing). Getting up there and nailing Cold Play or really, anything that doesn't have twang is taking a risk.
a) The judges probably have never heard it before and have no idea if you are doing a good job or not;
b) It's just not as 'fun' as a Suds in the Bucket or anything with twang;
c) It doesn't have twang.
On the flip side of the argument, if you sing country, you better damn well nail it. These judges know every little nuance of every song in Big Dick's book.
